I had a very round face when I was younger. Now I am 49 it means that I have started to get jowls which make me look older but also that I'm in a bad mood. I'm not sure I want a face lift but is there anything else that can be done to help me?
Some of the volume except that you are concerned with is related to the buccal fat, and reduction can help.
It does depend however on the degree of change that you might want to achieve, and another important consideration is the quality of the facial skin in particular related to the effects of sun damage or smoking. Liposuction to the jowl area is not usually suitable in women after approximately 35 years of age, unless it is combined with some tightening of the skin like in facelift intervention. This is primarily because facial skin tends to be thinner and more delicate, and volume reduction below it can start to show wrinkling, if there is no added skin tensioning.
Finally, the other considerations related to the contour of the neck, as the aesthetic area of the lower face is intrinsically related to the shape and volume of the neck.
I would be happy to evaluate with you using 3-D imaging and simulation what it is that you would like to achieve and define the type of treatment that may be suitable.
